Under section 130ZP of the Electoral Act 1985, any person classified as a third party campaigner will be required to lodge Third Party Returns.
In a Third Party Return, the following information must be reported:
- Total amount received during the reporting period.
- Details of amounts received over $5,000 (indexed).
- Total outstanding debts as at the end of the period.
- If the sum of all outstanding debts owed to a person or person or organisation exceeds $5,00 (indexed) - then details of each sum must be provided.
Third party reporting is not confined to amounts which relate to political activity. Any amount received (or owing) by the third party which is over $5,000 (indexed) must be reported.
Third Party Returns provide a picture of the overall financial situation of a third party.
