This happens when the recipient and donor have not lodged matching disclosures (eg there is a discrepancy in name or amount). The portal has been unable to reconcile the two disclosures which has resulted in two similar gift entries appearing in the Gift Map and Table.
Gifts may also be duplicated in the Gift Map and Table due to:
- some parties may double report gifts as they are required to report large gifts (anything over $25,000) within 7 days and the large gift may later be reported again in a half-yearly Political Party Return.
- duplication of gifts due to the donor/recipient reporting an aggregate amount while the other side has reported the gifts as individual amounts.
The Gift Map, while a helpful tool, needs to be reviewed with a critical eye. It is not as accurate as viewing a return.
Please go to the Reports section of the portal to view returns in whole for a more accurate picture of donations.
